1. Swimming at Hurricane Hole on Lake Murray
Hurricane Hole, also known as Hurricane Cove is arguably the most popular place to hang out and swim on Lake Murray. Located on the west end of the lake, Hurricane Hole provides swimmers with deep, cool and clean water as well as protection from the turbulence of the main channel. Hurricane Hole can bet quite busy during the weekend and holidays. For some the more the merrier, for others, the crowds at Hurricane Hole may be a turnoff. If you want to meet new friends and enjoy some good music, Hurricane Hole is the place to be.
2. Swimming Sandy Beach on Lake Murray
Another popular place to swim on Lake Murray is Sandy Beach. Sandy Beach is located on the south side of Lake Murray and offers swimmers a great place to swim. Sandy Beach gets its name from the sandy underwater surface which makes a great place to stand, swim, and hang out with friends. Much like Hurricane Hole, Sandy Beach can get busy during weekends and holidays. If you want a nice shallow place to swim on Lake Murray where the bottom is sandy, Sandy Beach is your spot. Another great perk of Sandy Beach is that you can actually beach your boat without damaging it.
3. Pine Island Cove on Lake Murray
If you are looking for a less busy place to swim, the cove behind Pine Island is a great choice. This cove is completely protected from the turbulence of the main channel and provides a nice deep place to swim. The water in this cove is cool and clean. There are houses along one side of this cove however the cove is rarely busy. Pine Island Cove is located on the east end of the lake on the dam side of Pine Island.
